The letter does not reflect the views of their institution. That’s telling.

Hell, we knew that, right?

The only black folks listed on the UCB history faculty are Waldo E. Martin and Tabitha Konogo.

I read the piece yesterday - did the author claim to be part of the history department, or did they just direct their ire towards them?

I'm also guessing adjunct faculty are not going to be listed.

All I know about that is based on the name of the Median piece and the letter contents.

Beyond the Median piece, a Conservative tweeter named "Tracy Beanz" posted the entire letter across 20+ separate tweets

It is still there for now.

In fact, African immigrants have one of the lowest incarceration rates amongst immigrant ethnicities.

Why?

It could be positive selection. There may be articles written on this.

Damn that was an excellent read. I hope there are pockets of these people in other universities too.

UCB is getting ripped on Twitter for their response. It’s pretty glorious. They actually kind of fanned the flames by responding. It is helping it to circulate more. Thanks for being dumb UCB.

The vast majority of violence visited on the black community is committed by black people. There are virtually no marches for these invisible victims, no public silences, no heartfelt letters from the UC regents, deans, and departmental heads. The message is clear: Black lives only matter when whites take them. Black violence is expected and insoluble, while white violence requires explanation and demands solution. Please look into your hearts and see how monstrously bigoted this formulation truly is.

I am still waiting for one of the resident nitwits to challenge the points made in this letter. I am a little disappointed.

The only counter argument I’ve seen on Twitter to it so far is he made George Floyd out to be a criminal lol.

I think I saw the tweet you mean, and it was shot down quickly by a young African American dude who essentially said the cop was wrong, but Floyd WAS a criminal, not a hero-- both are possible.

Might be the most one-sided ratio I have ever seen. Very encouraging.

Excellent article. Most rational take I have seen on this from anyone.

So true, but it will fall on deaf ears since it does not meet the mob's agenda...

That is a well-reasoned and -written piece.

As to anyone who actually believes it was written by a Black professor at Berkley ... I have this bridge .....

They confirmed that it was genuinely written by a UCB faculty of the history department? There are only 2 AA faculty so it is not a long list to try to figure out who it is.

UCB denies it was written by anyone in their department.

....But I have not been paying as much attention to the news lately.
