I would guess the self-loathing that caused him to take out a hit on himself, but instead resulted in his close family being whacked, has only increased the aforementioned self-loathing. How much does he hate himself now? A very Coen-esque story, btw.

I think this pretty much confirms he was involved in his wife and son's murder... guilt driving him to suicide, but he's too much of a pussy to off himself and is also worried about his life insurance policy.

yep, where are the SC brahs? wasn't he fighting with his wife? his son was an arrogant drunk killing that girl on the boat...
but why would he hire the hit of his wife & son? insurance money?
also he was caught stealing money from his law firm.
addiction to pain meds in rehab...
this is going to sound simplistic but years ago after a car accident and 2 surgeries. I was on not even heavy pain meds. In that time I did some weird arse stuff. I haven't taken anything more than advil in 10 years and I can see it now.
