re: Albemarle--the latest example of the foolishness of corporate giveaways by Jindal

Now that I'm no longer a state employee, I'm in a position to say that I used to receive their quarterly payroll reports. They paid quite well and well exceeded their benchmarks by a significant margin.
It's a shame they're leaving, especially when you consider a lot of of the failing companies the state continues to subsidize.

I thought once you get a state job no one ever leaves

So why couldn't JBE keep them in Louisiana?
They took another state's money.
Why would any company even approach JBE about staying in Louisiana given his public stands on business and taxes?
Everybody recognizes JBE's priority is to find a class action lawsuit he can hang on some industry on behalf of the state or citizens and get it to a friendly law firm so he can collect big ole checks once he leaves office.
I never will forget his statements after meeting with an oil industry group right after he was elected. He said something like "I know it is tough in the oil business now so we will not be seeking new taxes on the oil businesses---yet."

One more thing--the NC incentives are next to nothing for a company of that size. They were leaving regardless.

Thanks for your input. That's what I was getting at indirectly. You have to make it beneficial to bring business here.

The odd thing about all this is that I am beginning to agree, sometimes, with I. B. Freeman.
I. B., I can't drink alcohol anymore but we should get together one day, you can have a beer, I can have whatever.

200 jobs they created in Louisiana.
Blame LED, City-Parish and Baton Rouge Greater Chamber they the ones that proposed the deal. You mad because Jindal brought them in or their leaving under JBE?

He should have never given them our money to move here while native businesses continue to get screwed.
This is an example of the foolishness of picking winners and losers of state giveaways. They have no loyalty.
It's time to end LED, film credits, live music credits etc. and simply make the tax system fair for all business/ headquarters .
I love how you try and pin this on Jindal. We should be happy they came to Louisiana and created the jobs they did. Their natural base of business in around NC and Virginia headquarters.

How about we take the $12 million it woulda taken to keep them and build a fricking road or something. Buy some new schoolbooks. Something to promote business wanting to be here organically.
I think that's a good idea but let's be honest it's super competitive with Texas next door to Louisiana. I would focus like crazy recruiting tech companies out of California. Louisiana needs to desperately diversify its economy.
