That's correct, but not immediately. After the Second Coming.

Interesting. So everyone who has died, where are they? Not an argument. Just thinking. If the saved by grace are in heaven awaiting judgement, then the ones who died without coming to salvation through Jesus, are in hell? That sounds like they are already judged. I think about the thief on the cross who, when asking Jesus to remember him when He comes into His kingdom, was told “Verily this day you will be with me in paradise”. Has he already been judged? Is paradise another place besides heaven? A holding place? Jesus told Mary not to touch Him, as He has not ascended to the Father yet. That was on the third day. So how can he be with Jesus on the day he dies if Jesus hasn’t ascended to His father yet?
When Jesus called Lazarus out of the tomb, was Lazarus in heaven? If I was Lazarus and got called back to earth, I would’ve been a bit peeved lol. It’s seems to be a cloudy subject, but, scripture is very clear about it in that it says the dead in Christ will rise, and then those who are alive, will be caught up to be with Christ. This is the rapture of the church, the believers in Christ, ones who trust in what He did at Calvary, for the remission of their sins. This is the fascinating part, if Ms Steinem put her trust in that and truly repented, she would end up in heaven. Only God knows a persons heart. It’s hard to fathom that someone who called for aborting children could end up in heaven is a thought that is hard to grasp. Talk about hijacking a thread! Carry on.

Preface - I’m an atheist who used to be a Christian (Catholic variety).

I’ve asked this - Paul says on the day of the coming of the Lord Jesus, the dead in Christ will rise and meet the descending Christ in the air. Paul and other Christian New Testament authors say Jesus is going to come to judge the living and the dead. In fact during every Catholic mass we recited the Niceno-Constantinopolitan which states we look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come and that Jesus will come (again ) to judge the living and the dead.

Think about that. Jesus will come to judge the living and the dead. The living sure as shite are on earth. But where are the dead? Paul tells us the dead will rise to meet the descending Christ. If the dead were already judged and in heaven, they would be descending alongside the Christ. But no, the dead are supposed to rise up to meet Christ.

Then when I started to research, I found out that there were other Christian sects/cults/denominations that believe the dead just go to sleep in the ground and awaken at the resurrection when Jesus comes to resurrect the dead and judge both the living and the newly resurrected dead. I was like “holy shite that actually makes sense of the New Testament” but also other books such as Daniel and 1 Enoch and Isaiah and so forth.

quote:

But they can’t be. The judgement is a future event supposedly. And at that time or thereabouts, heaven and earth are supposed to pass away and be remade perfect. Last I checked we are still on the old earth and the firmament hadn’t come crashing down as broken sapphire crystals as strong as a cast metal mirror.

I think about the thief on the cross who, when asking Jesus to remember him when He comes into His kingdom, was told “Verily this day you will be with me in paradise”.

You got the quote a little off. Check out the Greek words and grammar. It’s very interesting. It’s supposed to be Truly I tell you this day, you will be with me in paradise. Koine Greek didn’t have commas (or even space between words). I inserted the comma where it should be in English. Think about what happens next in the gospel of Luke - Jesus is risen on the third day… he doesn’t immediately go to paradise the same day he was crucified. So was Jesus lying or being misleading in the story? No, what’s going on is English editions of the Bible put the comma in the wrong place. Presumably Jesus will return very soon, resurrect the guy who died on the crosses with him, and judge him, and they’ll be in paradise together. Not heaven. Jesus doesn’t say heaven. Don’t presume paradise is in heaven. Just look at Genesis chapters 2-3 in the Greek… the garden of Eden was in Paradise. Where was the garden of Eden, in Heaven or on earth?

quote:

When Jesus called Lazarus out of the tomb, was Lazarus in heaven? If I was Lazarus and got called back to earth, I would’ve been a bit peeved lol

You’re confusing your gospels. You were talking about the gospel of Luke with Jesus telling him that day that he’d (someday) be with Jesus in paradise. In the gospel of Luke, the story of Lazarus is just a parable (the early Christians knew this was just a story and was not to be taken literally or historically). The point of the story of Lazarus in Luke was that if someone rejects the law and the prophets, even witnessing someone being raised from the dead wouldn’t convince them to be righteous. So Lazarus was absolutely not resurrected in that story.

The author of the gospel of John didn’t like that story, and he totally spun it around and had Jesus resurrect Lazarus as a tool… to convince people to be righteous.

quote:

If you presuppose the dead go to heaven, you can see how the doctrine of the rapture developed. Jesus was descending to come to earth, and the righteous were supposed to rise up to meet Jesus in the air to escort him to earth, as was common during the time for kings to be escorted.

God's judgement should be a sobering thought for everyone, he ain't gonna play around, the Devil even knows it, and he knows what awaits him

Bro, “Lucifer” is the Latin translation that the KJV used (kept the Latin word/name) that means “shining one”. In Greek the Septuagint renders the Hebrew as “phosphorus” with the same meaning “shining one”. In Hebrew, a dialect of Canaanite, it is “Helel”. Helel Ben Shahar - Helel was a personal name that meant “shining one” and Ben Shahar means “son of the dawn”. The author was referring to a Canaanite myth of Helel Ben Shahar (Shahar was the god of the dawn and was responsible for getting the sun across the horizon so it could start its rise through the firmament) when Helel tried to usurp El Elyon (the God Most High - king of the gods and father of Yahweh and Ba’al and husband to Asherah). Helel thought he could usurp El Elyon and be the king and set his own throne on Mount Zaphon but he was unsuccessful and was cast down and punished by El Elyon. So in the Bible, the author of Isaiah is comparing the king of Babylon to Helel Ben Shahar, in that the king of Babylon was going to be unsuccessful in becoming king of the (known) world and would be cast down and punished.

Lucifer was in no way whatsoever connected with the Christian god of evil “Satan”. Go ask any practicing Jew or simply research the subject yourself.
