A great explanation on how the LA redistricting started by Andrew Branca.

I still don’t know why people blame Landry for this.

Who is blaming Landry for what?
If he didn't someone else would have.
He saw an opportunity to take out a political opponent (Graves) for not supporting him;
"bribe" Cleo Fields with a short term seat to sandbag the governor's race for the Democrats;
follow the letter of the law (at the time);
and intentionally have his people propose the most ridiculous map possible to guarantee that it would be contested/ make it to the Supreme Court.

I think it had more to do with the way he went about it. It was just some Louisiana politics thrown into an impossible situation the State had little choice in resolving.
I’m just glad there are those out there taking the time to explain what actually went on because the way it’s presented by many is that the State wanted the new map when it was legally forced to comply at the time.
When the case was brought before the USSC there were “groups” in Louisiana who actually thought the State AG’s office should have fought on the side of the new maps which didn’t happen. They laughed off the idea.

Landry’s administration took the easy way out to knock off a party rival and to keep a strong Dem from opposing him.
He had options. This wasn’t the only map considered. There were other maps.
In the end we can clearly see that Landry went along with an unconstitutional plan just because it suited his agenda.

I’m glad someone finally said this part out loud here.
It’s the elephant in the room on a state level that no one talks about. Everyone knew that’s what happened but it can be muttered out loud for whatever reason.
