A couple days late, but a step back to when being American was still a point of pride

Even though the Vietnam war protests were still recent memory in this clip, my nearly-60 year old arse can’t believe how many people find it fashionable now to bash the whole idea of the United States.
Here’s when a young black woman reminded us all what it felt like to belt out with pride your love of this country.
Leaving aside her later years, I’m not sure anybody will ever top this version.

Whitney's rendition is prob #1 all time.

Definitely #1 although Stapleton’s version a few years ago was close. I’m thankful to be able to live in an area where patriotism and love of country is the expectation

Agreed. Stapleton's is up there as well. Goosebumps every time.

Love Stapleton and many others that have been dragging country music back to a better place, and his version was both respectful and well executed.
For pure, unabashed passion and precision, though, Whitney’s was on a whole other level.

Jimi Hendrix wouldn't get away with this today:

I prefer my patriotic songs (however well done) not be delivered by sexually confused drug addicts.

GOAT rendition.
Meat Loaf's was pretty good, too, as was Lady Gaga's.

And there it is.
Can’t even have one example of a unifying moment without somebody injecting moral policing.
How about we just let one moment stand on its own?
If ever you are in a situation of sudden and massive wealth and fame, with lots of expectations built into how you handle it, I’m sure you will emerge completely pure and blemish-free.
In the meantime, please let us know who meets your standards for character in public figures. You seem to be fine with Trump using his office to enrich himself, so forgive me if I am skeptical regarding your judgments of others.

I'm ok with Trump getting whatever he can. Dems created this graft, and if he makes a few bucks while draining the swamp why not.

Trump is on my side. I have said many times that I am very pragmatic about this. My "friends" get the benefit of the doubt that others do not. Some call it tribalism, I call it selective.

Well, at least you’re honest about it.
