I’ve never purchased a weapon without being put through NICS.
I don’t see the big deal with private purchases having the requirement of going to an FFL location for a NICS check for the purchase to be legal. Just do a $10 fee that goes to the FFL location to compensate them for their time and effort.
We should all know that the gun show loophole is a myth. Anyone with an FFL has to follow the same rules at a gun show that they do at their brick and mortar.
There should be an exemption for inherited or gifted weapons where there was no money involved and the recipient isn’t actively and knowingly prohibited from owning a firearm.
I think private citizen (not FFL) sellers would feel better selling to someone they didn’t know using that process.

Just interested in the issue, baw. Just because I haven’t memorized the Q thread doesn’t mean I can’t have a view.

True. But trades do happen.

Legit question. If no registry then how do they know the gun changed hands in a private sale?

Dunno. Make it a crime?

Were I to sell a firearm to someone I didn’t know, I’d be much more comfortable doing so under a system where the buyer had a NICS check and the buyer signed a form that confirmed the transfer that wouldn’t be filed anywhere but would be in my possession.
All of that just protects the seller.
I’d be super uncomfortable just meeting some dude in a Target parking lot and selling him a gun.
