I'm very curious to see how this plays out

While he didn't do anything illegal, he did pretty much the worst legal thing you could do in the business he's in that's like 70% black. If I were a player, I wouldn't want to play for him

What would you do if you were the commish?

Nothing outrageous. Freedom of speech.

Though I don't condone with what he said.

Obviously the only thing to do here is to ask Obama what should be done and let him handle it.

I get your point, but doing nothing would cause a definite riot/strike from the players

Would think it's horrible, but wouldn't care enough to do anything. People need to learn to stop caring what people say/think. Let him be stupid, just ignore it.

He'll still feel the same way regardless of any fines or sanctions.

The only thing that would actually make a difference would be to take the team from him. But there's no way that they could do that.

Similar to Marge Schott

My guess is that Sterling gets $5MM fine (largest in sports history, i believe) and banned from day-to-day operations for entire 2015 season

True

I'm just curious as to what will end up happening to him since he technically didn't break any rules, but the NBA will do something

I take into account the trash he was dealing with that releases the tape to tmz and wait for all the information to come out before doing anything grand. Ask him to stay away during the playoffs is probably the best and only thing I would do.

Freedom of Speech

This only applies to the government or a government actor who is trying to abridge your right.

There's absolutely no freedom of speech in the private sector. The NBA can absolutely tell him what he can or cannot say if he wants to be a member.

It's absolutely shocking how many don't understand what freedom of speech actually means.

I'd ignore him for as long as his conduct remains within the bounds of whatever contracts he is subjected to. He's one man with a misguided opinion, just let it go.

Yep. Can't really say bomb in an airport or threaten to kill someone. Hell even a rapper can't use freedom of speech in a song in court...

I know this isn't the exact same thing, just saying
