Recommend me a pair of hiking boots... Calling Rogertheshrubber and like

Background: I am going hunting again in Montana and last time my footwear was not up to snuff.
We ride horses up the mountains and walk down the mountains with the horse. It's also very cold because we hunt in the snow in November.
I need a pair of hiking boots that meet the following criteria:
1. Water proof
2. Warm in 5 degrees ish
3. Fit snug enough that when I am walking down mountains or rocks I dont jam my toes into the front of the boot causing bleeding
4. Comfort - Will be walking 4-5 miles a day in rocky terrain. Blisters would make the trip miserable
5. Durable
Pretend no budget. What would the OB buy?

Danners with thinsulate insulation
wear liner socks and merino wool socks over them

I've had good luck with Irish Setter hunting boots. They are made by Red Wing. I always wore Vasque hiking boots when I backpacked. They are also a Red Wing company. Cabela's has a good pair with 400 gram insulation for around $225, I believe.

Another vote for Danners – if you are walking a lot I would go w/ uninsulated boots and merino wool socks. When I bird hunt in Canada in the winter and am walking I don’t use insulated boots. If you do get insulated boots don’t get super warm ones or your feet will sweat and be colder. You may want to get 2 pair an insulated pair for riding then hiking style for walking

I agree with this. That's why I said 400 gram or less, even though it is going to be 5deg. If you are sitting in a stand in 5deg weather, you would be ok with insulated boots. If you are still hunting/stalking/hiking, no way should you go with heavy insulation. I have hunted more than a few 10 deg mornings in just my uninsulated LaCrosse Alphas with two pair of good socks and been fine.

I've heard good things about Kenetrek boots. Made in Italy, very durable. Here's a review LINK
I don't own them but they look like something I may be interested in purchasing soon.
I'd be sure to get gaiters if your walking through deep snow.

Thanks for all the responses. I am going to buy a pair soon and start wearing them to get them loose and comfortable

My Lowa Renegades rock. Goretex, waterproof, vibram soles, and are light. Cost 220$.
Excellent boot, best pair I've ever owned.
Eta....I've walked down very steep rocky/scree fields and my toes feel great in them. Second the gaiters, keeps boots that much drier.

Those I linked come ready to go. They are expensive however. Company is in Bozeman, MT but they are mfg in Italy.
