D-Line-U, DB-U ....and ~LB-U? Can Chief pull it off anytime soon?

If Chavis has a specialty over his overall coaching career, it is putting LB's into the NFL. Now, with the D-Line-U, DB-U status pretty much established, and with the 2012 haul of outstanding/athletic LB's in the mold of classic Chief LB's, could LSU be in the process of having all 3 of these in place at the same time?

Yeah, I know our LB corp is far from that at this time, but even though it might seem outrageous on the surface, is it really outrageous to think that he could pull this off? Considering what he did with the LB's at Tennessee...

Who thinks it is possible to maintain the D-Line and DB status (or at least close to the recent/current level), and to build the LB corp into a big-time strength in the next 2-4 years - all at once?

With the influx of young talent we have at DL and LB, if the younger DBs step up this season and afterward, this is definitely possible.

Takes many years to get a U tag...and I don't see it happening given chiefs age

I've heard this a lot, but specifically who are those LB he has put into the NFL? I know of some big time lineman, but I don't know who the LB are.

I definitely think so. Our recruiting for this coming season showed great emphasis on the LB position. I think our coaching staff is starting to recognize our shortcomings at positions a lot quicker and are starting to be more proactive with recruiting.

I say within a few years, we'll be known as the Defense Factory.

As far as linebackers go, I think this past year's linebacker class is a step in the right direction. There's some legit talent in that group.

Penn state and alabama crank out good lbs on a yearly basis. I don't see us passing them with just a couple of years

We wouldn't have to surpass Bama, if we could get an LB in the 1st -3rd round 3 years in a row and maintain a first round DB or DL in those years, we'll become D-U.

That will also have recruits dying to get offered here, knowing we pump out 1-3rd rounders on the regular.

I thought his specialty was just developing good LBs, regardless of NFL success. was a bit surprised that some of his guys were drafted or drafted as high as they were (like Raynoch in the 2nd round).

I do, though I gotta say I was really disappointed in the LB play last yr.
