Okay, this past weekend, after we discovered the uses of fire and invented the wheel, my wife and I broke down an bought our first flat screen HDTV (a Samsung . . . very nice)for our bedroom. Next week, we're buying a larger one for the den.

So, after talking to Cox, it seems all I have to do is take the two converter boxes into their office and exchange them for two new ones and simply come home and hook them up and . . . bang . . . we have HDTV. I realize I'll have to buy a new DVD player (Blu Ray) for high def. But that seems simple too. Also, I suppose I should purchase the new cables to go with the rig.

Am I missing anything here? Anyone have any suggestions?

don't buy HDMI cables at Best Buy. Go to either Amazon or Monoprice for those.

And yes, it's that simple. Just be sure to tune in to the actual HD channels (above 1000). I had to educate my parents on this as they had spent a month watching SD on their brand new plasma and had no idea.

Get 2, 1 to hook up to your pc. You'll need an audio cable too.

Oh and you'll probably want to go ahead and get surround sound.

Cox will give you component cables but hdmi is much easier to use as it is 1 wire vs 5 wires

Some newer TVs don't even have component inputs anymore

Buy extra hdmi cables bc the shipping will be more than the cable probably and it helps to have a few extra around

That's all you need, you don't need audio cables and all that

Probably not a bad idea to put your fancy new tv on a surge protector though, just in case

check the length you will need before ordering your cables. Don't order a 3' cable when you really need 4'. Check newegg and monoprice for cable prices

Order HDMI cables for your whole family too. Saved my dad about $100 when he was going to buy 3 of them at HH Gregg when I told him I had plenty of extras. I think I ordered 6 from monoprice a while back. Cheaper than 1 at a store.
