I weigh 200lbs and need to know what weight the Yak should be rated for? I was thinking about 350lbs, or do I need more?

Well, the Pelican Castaway 11'6" claims it supports 325 or 350lb. I weighed 200lb. and I wouldn't have felt comfortable if it drew another millimeter of water. I have a Wilderness Systems Ride 135 and I feel like it could support two of me.

So, really it varies from boat to boat. What boats are you looking at specifically?

Looks like Sampson from Carnivale.

I have the Ascend FS12 and it works fine for me and I'm a pretty big guy.

Just have to think about what else you are going to carry.

Mine is rated for 450. That's a lot, but I have dreams of taking my 2 boys on a yak camping trip with me in a few years, and we'll probably be using most of that capacity.

I am looking at a few...the Cobra fisherman rated for 400lbs. There is one made locally around BR that I saw at the Outdoorsman Showl at Lamar Dixon ( don't remember the name).

I would like to know of other brands, haven't looked too much into it....but I would live to get started!

Academy has the 12' Perception Sport Pescador for $499. - Best deal out there IMO. They used the same mold as the Wilderness Systems Tarpon 12' did previous to 2008. The main difference is the hull material, which is still really good and strong. The Tarpon is usually a $1000 dollar boat. I really wish I would have got that one instead of my WS Ride.

6' 210. I don't have any problems fitting in it. It is comfortable and stable.

KC Kayaks.
They are very nice but steep.

I have a heritage redfish 14, I think the weight capacity is 650. I fished Waldon the other day with my friend riding in the tankwell (back area) with no problems, except I wish he would have had a paddle too ha. it's also an extremely stable boat.

I saw those kc yaks at the backpacker. I don't think their worth the money. They look slow as shite and they are a two-piece hull design. The material they're made out of didn't seem all that sturdy.
