I hope they don't leave this as an opening to funnel the money elsewhere.
Exactly what just happened from what I can tell. In a few months they'll say the funds just aren't there for the planned projects.

I'm sure they will have a ton of money to spend on worthless "studies". It's a shame the responsible in this country are too busy working and taking care of their families, so they become distracted and aren't able to hold these bastards feet to the fire.
While the welfare leeches are out in full protest anytime they feel slighted in the least.
The day politicians fear the most is when they get a group of white collar workers protesting outside their office at 12pm on a Tuesday. That's when the shite is going to get real. Until then they will continue with their bullshite.

While the legislature is on the front line of this issue and taking the blame. Gov. Jindal should also share the blame.
You have to understand how the legislature works. While the LA leg is supposed a separate, but equal branch - its not. The Gov can get just about anything passed he wants. Unless the legislature has grown a set in the last 40 years, the line item veto gives him complete authority to do what he wants.
I can assure yall that this is a low priority for Bobby. He can strut Garret out there all he wants, but if this was a priority it would get done.
I have been saying this for a long time. Elections have consequences. Bobby has never been a friend of the outdoors man and never will be. Hell, I will never forget his "hunting and fishing" piece of mail I got from him. The picture had him fishing with a spin cast reel that was upside down.
Congrats to the people who voted for him.

Jindal will suck one time money from anywhere into the budget to avoid any inkling of a tax increase. Has to keep Grover Norquist's dick happy. See also annual raid on artificial reef fund.

I saw you use one that way also.

Joking aside, I'm not surprised. I hope BP pushes back on this BS. Just like the oil boom in the late 70s, when all this is over with, including the construction boom, LA will have nothing to show for it aside from some big houses and camps the top tier bought with their ill gotten gains. And the tax payer will have to bail the state out again.

Why would they? The BP money first and foremost was to clean the coastline, not rebuild it. That, and I highly doubt they care what the items on the invoice are, as long as the bottom line doesn't change.

Because they've been doing it on a lot of other things. They are responsible to rebuild what they damaged, which is a lot and I'm not sure all has really manifested itself either. Regardless, the money should be used to fix the coastal damage we are aware of, not plug holes in healthcare, higher ed and Medicaid. He's the dumb arse that decided to blow the billion + surplus we had instead of moving it to a rainy day fund. Graves won't say anything because he's one of the pawns.

Why does the public continue to allow this? Afterall, they do work for us.......

preaching to the choir, you're just a little more optimistic than I am when it comes to BP giving a shite

I was about to say. There is no way they will push back. Its not their job. BP doesn't care where the money goes - they just know its gone and they are meeting their finical obligation.
If they were smart and gave a shite about the coast - they would tell Bobby and the Legislature that part of the deal was that the money goes to the coast. If they did it would really look like they are upholding their fiduciary responsibility and were good stewards of the coast. They don't give a shite and thus won't push back.

They may not care, but they are going to act like it for a while. And I can assure you, they have told the state to GFTS several times.

Thats simple. The public has more important issues than the coast. Also, the public is ignorant to the issues and how government works.
I guarantee you a dollar to a dime most people bitching about this voted for Bobby at least once. The ones that did either were educated enough to say "I have more important issues that are important to me" OR They were fooled by the rhetoric and didn't do the proper research.
Either way, Bobby told the entire state what he was going to do when he ran the first time. He just didn't get to deep with details.

Bottom line, BP really doesn't care how the settlement money is spent. I am sure there are many within BP that genuinely want the money (both NRDA and Clean Water penalties) to go for coastal restoration, but the company has to write the same checks regardless. LA was actually viewed as the leader in the Gulf as far as dedicating funds for coastal restoration, now all bets are off. Just look at AL using the bulk of their recent payments to build a convention center that will actually require destroying coastal wetlands as part of the construction.

It's fine guys. Like the casino money going to "education." Well....it did. Then they stripped all the money for education from the general fund. Nothing to see here.

There is no doubt they have told the states' leaders to go frick themselves. I wish the public would do the same thing.

I hope I am wrong. I wish they wouldn't pay the settlement if Bobby robs Peter to pay Paul. They won't though.
