$500 bucks to a local fire arms store here in PA. I've been wanting a 1911. I've never bought a handgun all of the ones in my collection is hand me downs from my grandpa (moms side) and dad.
What are some things I should look for in making my purchase. Handgun in general as well. Right now I do have a conceal carry permit.

I have only looked online. I don't want to jump on something to quick. I have looked at the colts and kimbers online. Since I would probably not carry it. It would be for pistol shoots mostly
I guess the real question is I have read that modifications are essential to reliability in some cases. What are pitfalls to watch for from certain manufacturers?
