That MFer is mean looking. I would say that two of the same size dogs would win against a wolf. The reason is because wolves are surviving creatures. They would run off if they felt like the fight was too hard. The domesticated dogs would be more loyal and fight to the death.

Possibly.

But a wolf rarely travels alone. They're like coyotes, travel in packs and are very smart. Plus, they hunt everyday and can kill 99.9% of domestic dogs with one bite to the neck. Just like a coyote.

Roger the Shrubber can tell you how big wolves get. 150 lbs is average for most wolves. Esp. on the west coast.

Dogs routinely are used to hunt down large boar, cats, and other dangerous animals. It isn't a stretch of the imagination that there are some situations where they could get the best of a wolf.

I don't know about 1 on 1, but I have a feeling that a large, well nourished trained dog could survive a fight with a wolf. I think the wolf would disengage pretty quickly once they knew they were in a fight.

If you read any of my posts, I already covered that wolves travel in packs.

Roger said a wolf could make short work of several dogs rather easily. I doubt that to be true. Again, don't forget the dog killed was 16 years old. Wolves are smart. That's why it picked easy prey.

Exactly. The mindset is completely different

I suspect a wolf has much more stamina than even a well exercised domestic dog.

Ever bird dog I ever had could always go much longer at the end of the season than at the beginning. They just are not in very good shape compared to a wild wolf. Domestic dogs have their food brought to them everyday

I don't understand that argument. Male African lions rarely do all of the hunting. The females do. The male is there to fight if need be to defend it's territory. Stamina is a great attribute FOR HUNTING, but that doesn't mean it will translate in a fight.

ETA: lions have poor stamina, I know

I was just making the point that wolves are much larger coyotes in mindset, etc...

You are correct about the wolf disengaging when the situation isn't to his favor. Also, like coyotes, , wolves will trick prey. For instance, one wolf will make himself conspicuois(sp) to entice their prey to come after them. While the rest of the pack is hidden. Then the lone wolf runs towards his buddies and game over.

Exactly Sab.

But the male lion eats first and does all the fricking. It's great to be king.

Yeah, it's incredible to watch them work. They get you out in the open and just run you down until you are completely exhausted and can't fight back. Truly an impressive animal.

Here's the video I was looking for. I'm sure you've seen it, but it's awesome still. Mother Nature is ruthless.

The last male lion is the longest one I've ever seen. "He who greets with fire". Yeah, no shite.

Oh yeah, one of my favorite videos.

It's amazing how different animals are on the dark continent. Just pure hatred, like it's about more than survival.

Do you know what male lions do when they defeat another male? They will mutilate the loser's genitals so they can't breed. Incredible. So raw.

That boerboel that was posted isnt the best example of the breed to say the least. It looks more like an english mastiff. I suck at posting pics but you can google the dog "Pinnacle Havoc", which is a much better representation of how they should look. He is also the grandfather of my pup. Our boy is 6 months and almost 100lbs...and very muscular and lean. My older one is 3 yrs old and about 150. They are awesome dogs. Back to the wolf discussion...the one thing that most are missing is that the jaws of the wolf are more meant for ripping and tearing rather than crushing and killing. As stupid as this all sounds, as i would never fight an animal purposefully, a large breed dog such as a boerboel or a few of the others named would clamp down on a part of the wolf and the damage would be immense. I have seen my boys eat large raw bones and simply pulverize them...its pretty scary.

shite, that's brutal. I didn't know that.

Also, when a new male takes over the pride, it kills all the kitts.

I'm sure you know that, but that factoid is for the other folks in this thread.

Africa is the perfect example of Darwinism.
