Why do a few crickets immediately die when you bring them home?

I buy them by the 100 and they go in the cricket box. I put some potatoes in there for them to eat. Invariably a few die. What happens?

I’ve seen them kill each other. I usually use the dead ones first while they are still juicy.

I know one thing that kills them immediately, and that is a gecko. I came back from a trip and had a bunch left over, left cage underneath consoled boat in open carport. Next morning, two fat arse geckos were in the cage and had eaten every single one. I now cover them up overnight.

Was on a camping trip and fished with crickets the first day.

I had them in a round cricket basket which I hung on a tree branch for the night.

Next morning there was a huge wolf spider trapped in the basket and several dead crickets.

I had a time getting the spider out without losing the crickets.

Probably killed themselves with all that cricket squeaking. I once turned my college bedroom upside down to find a damn chirping cricket. Ended up finding him inside of a wall socket after a hellacious game of hide and seek.

Truth though. A million crickets chirping at night is relaxing. A single chirping cricket will drive a man mad.

dehydration potatoes are good but put a Mason jar lid full of water in the cage and they will make it

Instead of a water lid I always soaked a paper towel in water and they drank it.

But don't listen to me I tend to end up with spider crickets.
