Why are red dot scopes illegal for big game?

Use of rifle scopes that
project an artificial light to illuminate the target or
project infra-red light visible only with specialized
optics to illuminate the target are unlawful for the
taking of game animal

I thought bit was illegal in LA and Texas also.

Hogs being a non game species are an exception

That is my understanding as well. My dad had gotten a new red dot scope for his xbow and I thought it was illegal. I was wrong.

Are you referring to laser sights? Those project a red dot, but are not what people are referring to when they use the term "red dot sight." As to your question, I do not know what the basis is for banning laser sights. I suspect some legislator watched The Terminator in 1984 and immediately drafted the Anti-Laser Sight Act of 1985.

Yeah that's not talking about red dots at all

What OP posted is not red dot but artificial illumination for scopes or hunting is illegal in many states. Some states you can’t even use lighted nicks for example.
