They are pure bred. They may be black but they are pure bred.

We had our dog at a trainer at 5 months. We just didn't have the time OR knowledge to get her to the Grand Champion level ourselves. When we sent her to the trainer she had basic obedience both on and off a whistle. He reinforced all of that. Then went on to force fetching. Marks. Multiple marks. Then collar conditioning. Then hand signals/blinds. Swim by. Then pattern blinds and technical work. She has never failed a test in both AKC or UKC. Is 1 test from HRCH and 1 test from Senior Hunter. Plan to have her in the UKC Grand this spring and AKC Masters next year. She's 19 months old and I get compliments from judges and people at tests at how great she works. (yes I am proud of her) Our trainer uses Mike Lardy's methods with some of his own, but harps a lot on Mike Lardy's stuff. Tritronics website has good stuff on it too. I would say that when she was collar conditioned she was a little under a year old. If you are worried about the weight of the collar on a pup then the pup is too young. If you want the best for your dog try LINK

When is the right time to start a pup on an e collar? Paging wickowick.

Once it has heel down fairly well on a lead, I walked her at heel. When she would start to wonder off I would tug the lead and nic her. I would apply pressure until she returned to the heel position, not constant pressure, just a series of nics.
Yea but he is running a bird dog, it is in their nature to roam,
can't crush that desire...
Trying walk grizz at heel is like trying to spear fish a tarpon....

One day I am going to retire from regular work and just play with dogs everyday. I find they are smarter than most of the people that I deal with these days.
Wife will be a doc in April. Wanna go at it together. I would love to.

I am open to all ideas. My biggest concern is the lifestyle change that would have to happen. I could no longer spend at the rate I do now. Thats why I am trying to buy all the things I ever wanted now.

Point in case,my wife. I only spent 4 years, she is working on 8. It's my turn.
