What's an average price per ft to have a wooden fence built?

Hiring someone to do it, vs. buying materials and doing it your self?

About $8/ft to build, double that to hire.

Build it yourself.

I built a wooden fence two years ago for $7 per ft. Probably double that to have it built.

If you want treated pine, no way it will cost less than $12-14 to have it built. I'd go with cedar and get #1 grade. It's thicker and will last longer. If you do it yourself, I'd definitely use 3 runners and go with longer runners of 12' or more. Will make your fence much stronger.

15 pickets $1.75 per = 26.25
3 cross beams $3.50 per - 10.50
2 4x4s $8.00 per = 16.00
1 bag quikrete = 4.00

8ft Total - ~$53 (about $7 per ft)

or thereabouts to build yourself...

I paid just under $14/ft with a 10ft gate in October. Just plain 6ft treated pine pickets, 4x4 posts and 6x6 posts on the gate.

I live in nawf Missippi.

If I build it myself with treated pine, it would be $12-14?

He is saying to have it built by a professional.

And the biggest tip of you do the work yourself, rent a gas posthole digger or get a friend with a tractor and auger.

Ain't nobody got time for digging holes by hand.

So treated pine is the best route to go?

I'd go cedar pickets.

Everything else will be treated pine.

I replaced a couple of sections of my fence a week or so ago and can tell you this is almost exactly what I spent for a fence of 6 ft treated pine pickets.

ETA: if you like to work outside and are somewhat mechanically inclined, you can do it yourself, but it is a hell of a lot more work than you think it is going to be....

When I lived in BR I used to build fences (back in the 90's). Scott Fence out on Highland Road (Don't know if they still exist) is where I would get CYPRESS pickets. Much prettier than pine or cedar, and lasted longer than either. Price wise, the cypress was actually cheaper than the cedar at the time.
