Certainly shoot it. Not worth the risk others are mentioning.

certainly you aren't implying that a 1.5 year old spike cannot grow into a nice buck. There are so many variables to consider than just a picture comparing a 1.5 year old 6 pt to a 1.5 year old spike.

They can be a nice deer. I'd rather lose him than keep him. This isn't 1950. Just depends on your goals.

It depends on what you are looking for. Do you hunt for meat or do antlers matter to you. If you want meat, I would rather shoot a spike and let my does go to fill my freezer. The doe you kill will probably produce another just like him for a few years. If you are a horn hunter, let him go another season. There is no wrong answer, it is a choice. It is also no one else's business what deer you shoot legally.

Now for all you biologist here , how old is this deer? Yea it's a 1.5 year old so why wouldn't you kill a 1.5 year old spike?

How do you know this buck's mother wasn't bred in November and the spike's mother was bred in January?

Maybe your place has superior nutrition?

Way too many variables.

If you want to shoot a spike, do it, but don't justify it on those terms because it's crap. Say you wanted to kill a spike. Thats all.

People use the cull claim to avoid saying that they wanted to shoot a baby buck. Own up to it.

Scientific research busts the myth on big whitetail antlers! Watch this online video to see the results of ground breaking research to put to bed the question of antler size and genetics versus nutrition.

This is done by MSU on Mississippi deer. Across the whole state.

I know yall wont watch, will still continue to do your thing, and bitch about not killing good deer

if erryone would leave the basket 6 and 8's alone and start culling the spikes, the world would be a better place.

While I don't fully agree, protecting the

under 4 yoa is way more important than letting spikes walk. Of course, people with lots of cameras and accurate information on age can do a better job than those without.

Maybe so, Now tell me why some are still spikes?
I plant soy beans in the Spring & start feeding corn & rice bran in September along with planting wheat & oats.

Obviously I can't tell you definitively. But it can be as simple as when the mother was bred.

That is a 1.5 year old young buck. Nothing more, nothing less. If you want to shoot it, that's on you but don't complain that you never get to shoot any 120-150" bucks on your place when you're not letting them mature
