Black floating straight tail worm(zoom trick worm or similar)on a 1/4 once spot remover shakey head jig.

I have never been on a trip when this has not caught fish. Small fish yes..but it beats being skunked

I downsize my baits but still use baits that are consistent with the water and conditions I am fishing.

For example in clear water I may down size to a 3" floating or suspending Rapala in natural silver and black color.

Or in muddy water I may change to a smaller chartruese colorado spinner bait.

Or in green or "fertile water" I may swithch to a 4" straight tail worm fished weightless on a 1/0 EWG hook.

Although, sometimes it pays to force a reaction bite when nothing else works. A large cordell spot with the bottom treble cut to a double hook banged off of rocks and timber with a repeting hard jerk action can get some bites when it is slow. Also a large buzz bait with a clacker running into obstructions then sputtering off can also get some occasionally when nothing else will.
