This is so much more common than people realize.

In Wyoming for instance, the most popular all around caliber for everything from antelope all the way to bull elk is the 270.

It can never have the hole size of a 308 caliber or larger.

7mm is fine like Downshift suggested. have a buddy with two young sons that regularly shoot moose in the Fall with them

The only American game I wouldn't use a 270 for would be the big coastal bears.

I agree with Tim on just about everything. He's talking about Elk, which is a way different game than moose.

7mm rem mag is a fine moose / general western caliber with good bullets. Where people have problems is poking big game at bad angles with 130gr soft points. With good 175gr bullets it'll work great for everything except the biggest bears.
