Yeah not all Leupold mounts and bases are the same design. You may have dovetail mounts and bases.

Broke in the "groove" where the screw attaches to the base. Only thing I can figure is that it was over torqued causing a stress fracture. I've personally never had problems with them, but this was disturbing. Waiting on him to send me some pics. I didn't think to take any.

I have snapped a dove tail ring off before while mounting it. Biggest issue with a dove tail, IMO, is getting them straight to prevent torquing your scope. I haven't seen many people that know what their doing. That or they are just too lazy to do it correctly.

Good lord man, you were powering down on it. I worked at Simmons for close to 5 years and mounted a bunch of scopes every day, sometime 20-30 scopes a day and have never done that. I have had a windage screw completely shear off while tightening but thats really the only problems I can think of out of leupold rings and bases.

I've used one piece mount/rings before but didn't like them because there was so little room to move the scope for and aft in the rings. Easier to make this adjustment using a Weaver base that has multiple slots.

Sometimes that makes it to where the weaver style bases are the only thing that can be used. I dont have a problem with too many rings and bases just as long as they are steel. NEVER use aluminum rings or bases, even on a 22LR they suck.

1+.
That's one of the reasons I use a Weaver base instead of dovetails.

I have talley lightweight one piece rings/bases for my VX 2 and I couldn't be happier with them. I have also heard very good things about the dead nutz (DNZ) one piece combos. Ill be putting a pair of those on my "primitive" weapon soon

Yeah I'm thinking whoever did that probably doesn't even know what a torque wrench is much less when you should use one.
