Regular Match Ammo you do not need a throated barrel. SOME Match ammo is for throated barrels only and will say that on the box. If you find some match ammo that says nothing about needing a throated barrel then it will shoot in your regular barrel.

Some specialty loads have an overall cartridge length longer than normal spec ammo. Many bolt gun shooters do this on hand loads so the bullet itself makes contact with the barrel riffling sooner.
The long cartridge my not fit into magazines or feed properly in auto loaders.
