Unless you see two of them flying at Mach 1 dead at you...and you SWEAR TO GOD it's teal...and then you bust both of them....while your buddy's laughing his arse off at you....cuz he knows they are "fish ducks"....

Nah, couldn't have happened to me....nah..never in a million years...LOL

Next time I see a drake hooded merganser, I'm going to mount him. They look cool..

That being said, I consider coots a shite bird. I wouldn't eat scaup unless it was mixed with other stuff, and would only shoot them if they're the only thing flying. I've never gone out to hunt spoonbills but am not opposed to shooting the. The drakes in full plum look pretty cool.

Yeah, have to be careful at first shooting time not to take spoons in rice fields. I've had some really nice stringers ruined by the one guy taking the two spoons at first light. Now if it's getting late and very slow the inspectors have to be careful or their days of eating rice are done with.

Forget that, if spoonbills come in on me in the marsh at first light, I'm going to frick them up. At first light I can't always tell what kind of big duck it is, especially if it's overcast and they just light into the decoys. I'll shoot first and identify later.

I agree. You can have those jacks.
Bluebills nasty
You can keep any other diver.

Frankly, I'm not wild about green heads. I've never understood why they are so popular. The meat is too strong.

Love me some smiley faces. They taste great!

Squealers/tree/whistling ducks are excellent table fare. I eat anything but scaup and ringers.

Ring necks aren't Scaup, they're actually edible. I stay away from all divers except for Cans and Ring necks. Some Spoons are fine, it's primarily the ones down in the marsh that taste awful because they stop feeding on crops and get into crustaceans

Huh?

Squealers are about the best tasting duck around, even better than teal. Hell to pock, so I just skin em out

My fav are in this order: widgeon, squealers, teal, wood ducks, pintails/gray, canvasback, mallard, spoons, errything else.

I have had mallards and spoonies that are delicious, but some that are terrible.

If you're killing birds that have been in the rice fields i have a hard time distinguishing taste. If they live in the marsh some of them have that shiny meet that tastes like fish. Canvasbacks lesser scaup spoonies all get passed on a good hunt in the marsh. For eating purposes.

They are very pretty birds and we don't see a lot of them. Honestly we'll shoot just about anything if that's what it takes to fill the bag but there's a lot better chance if teal woodies pins etc being picked as opposed to breasted out and frozen forever

Makes sense. If its a duck and near me, I'm going to attempt to kill it. It has to be raining ducks for me to pass one up because its not good enough
