New to the OB.. looking for recs for a good waterfowl lodge in Oklahoma for 3 days in December. Most research Ive done has them at $1000 a gun for 3 days with lodging and food, but just dont know where some of the best places are. Would like to find somewhere cheaper than $1000 but also dont want to sacrifice quality for a cheaper price. Thanks in advance guys

You are going to be hard pressed to find any with open dates this late. Last time I checked on this a couple years back I started calling right after the season and there was already waiting list.

I am with Greenhead, may be tough to get dates this late, unless mid week.
Salt Plains Outfitters posted some dates on instagram a couple of weeks ago. I have never hunted with them, but seemed to be a good guy when I talked to him.
We are booked with Finish Line. This will be our first year with them. I am not sure they have any dates.
My experience has been, if you find a good one you will have book for next season while your there hunting with them.

I live and hunt in Oklahoma and will just say - don't waste your time. Hunt anywhere else but OK. No birds here. Zero.

I'm possibly doing a DIY public hunt up there in mid December with some friends

Eta: also going to Colorado in January

Actually both of those are significantly cheaper than any places I looked at for duck hunting. However we are camping and hunting public land in Wyoming and have connections for private land and hunting public land in Wisconsin so that's probably why.

Are you chasing elk or mulies on your WY trip? The west is addicting, you may not want to come back.

Mulies and antelope, I would love to move out there. Have applied to several jobs around Denver but no luck yet. I wish I could find something in Montana that paid decent.

You need to get yourself a bird dog if you end up going that route, then you'd be set up for pretty much anything and everything

Be careful. Some friends of mine got hosed by some guides in OK. Like others here have said, the best fellas are booked way in advance. The birds in OK are there but in my experience you or your outfitter have to do a lot of homework to have those great hints

Have y'all targeted an area/WMA/lake or still too early in the planning stages?

Gotcha. If you're going with someone experienced up here then I'm sure it'll be a good time. Mid december should be second split opener for the whole state so you shouldn't have any trouble finding fresh birds.

If yall need an extra gun I would be interested. However ive heard one of the bad thinks about OK is there is not a lot of public land? Is this true?

We had thought about doing a similar trip to Kansas though because there's ample public land and a lot of access to private land that gets put in the public programs.

There aren't the vast stretches of contiguous public land like you'll find elsewhere, but when it comes to ducks, the pressure is light outside of the lakes near the AR border.

I haven't had any problem finding unencumbered public land for ducks, deer, quail, squirrel, or turkeys in the 2 years I've been here.

And Oklahoma just launched their own Oklahoma Land Acess Program this year for private land to allow public access. Currently very few tracts are enrolled, but hopefully it'll lead to even more public hunting opportunities in the near future.

ETA: there are way more reservoir/boat hunting opportunities here too that I haven't even scratched the surface on. Everything I do is walk in hunting.
