I moved to Galveston and have been seeing a ton of guys wade fishing on my way to work. The water has been like glass lately.

Any suggestions on a cheap set up I could buy at like an Academy for the weekends? Any help much appreciated.

They're hitting top dogs right now if you can find green water in the surf.

And always... live bait.

Fishing for trout?

Avoid bleeding in the water. YWIA

Bull sharks love leg bones.

There is also a kayak and wade fishing book thats pretty detailed for that area. Has topo type maps making location as well as good write up on the time of year to hit certain areas of the island or bay system.

I know cut rate cares this book. its like 19.00 last time I looked at it.

Go to Academy and get yourself a 7 ft Allstar and put an Ambasseduer 5000C on it. Bullet proof and about $100.00.
Get some popping corks , live scrimps and hit the surf around San Luis Pass on a falling tide with wind SE less than 10.
Bring an ice chest.

If you feel a little tug on your stringer, don't panic!

Go to Academy. Get a rod & reel you are comfortable with. Doesn't have to be different just because wade fishing.

Get a wade belt that holds rod, small tackle box, and stringer. I use walknwade. Sold at Academy.

Keep a small sample of baits in your box...topwaters, catch 2000s, sand eels, hooks, etc.

Can always buy Ray guards to protect you from stingrays, but they are uncomfortable. Just remember to shuffle your feet and you should be fine.

Keep stringer within easy reach in case a shark does come for it. Just pull it off your belt and let go. Shark will leave. It wants the fish not you.

I see everyone just along the west end Seawall, I I was thinking of going down a little bit towards east end. Maybe a couple blocks down from 61st?

I prefer the west end. Jamica Beach area

Head out to the 2nd sand bar and start fishing.

Yeah I live right there on the west end (right by the sign that says Jamaica Beach 11 miles).

I could pretty much walk out there. Didnt know if some areas were better or not though

I prefer the west end. Also close to the pass which can be good fishing just have to be careful of currents most wade fisherman wear life vests in this area. I also like being close to the bay on the west end. Easy to switch between the surf and bay when things are slow.

So you loose all of your catch? I'm not understanding you...
I know I rather loose the catch than get eaten, but is that what you are saying...pull stringer off your belt and let it float (away)?
