re: "Use of +P and +P+ ammunition accelerates wear and reduces the service life

First off, different barrels are made for different tolerances and pressures. You cannot compare the pressure of a barrel made for .357 with a 9mm. They are different, very different, even it it doesn't seem like much.
Secondly, when we talk about "wearing out" a gun we are not typically talking about the slide, barrel, frame, etc. But springs and such may have to be replaced more often when using +P or +P+. The hotter rounds slam the gun around much harder and do increase wear on some of the parts.
Thirdly, what kind of gun are you using? If you are talking about a sig, glock, springfield, etc. then I would hesitate to put some hot powder through it. I wouldn't recommend in on your Hi-Point though!

Purple, you may be right for the majority of people. My guns have been shot 1000s of times but they are far from wearing out. Then again, even this is more than the average person puts down the pipe.
And LP I completely agree on all counts. Comparing different cases and bullet weights becomes an apples to oranges comparison.

I have an HK P2000 in 357sig, and it just seemed like a curious statement in the P series operator's manual.
Most of what I've read on why the 357sig isn't a more popular round is that the 9+P+ is just as good ballistically. That and they say the muzzle flash is off putting at night.
I don't have a 9, and I can't afford enough 357sig rounds to wear out my gun, so it's moot to me.

I thought +P+ was made to be ran in Smg's like Uzis ect. I wouldn't run +P+ in any of my semi auto's.

+P just means the round is over standard pressures as observed by SAAMI (sp?). +P+ is just over that next threshold.
Good guns can handle anything from a respectable ammo manufacturer.
You think Winchester would mass produce an ammo that was unsafe in a Glock/SW/etc?
Gun manuf. put that on there for legal protection b/c above SAAMI pressure could mean some super-high pressure that no one with a brain would load the caliber to.
I have Win Ranger 127 +p+ in my M&P and feel fine about it.
They are hot though. I shot just enough of them to make sure they work.

Gaston,
Since we're talking about an HK gun, you should be fine to run +P's through it. As a matter of personal preference, I don't ever run +P+ in my guns. If I'm in a situation that needs more velocity than I can get w/ a +P, I'm going to get a different gun instead of a higher pressure round.
As a matter of practice, run normal pressure rounds in your 9mm for range work; reserve the +P's for self defense or limited training. Personally, I see no need for civilians to use +P+. The quote from your manual mainly sounds like "legalese" to me. "....is not recommended." Does that mean to NEVER shoot those rounds or to shoot them in limited quantities?
Now, go shoot that gun and enjoy it some!
