It'd be cheaper than a 22 round right now anyway

Your handle is oleyella and you don't want the man to shoot his dog.

What's a vet going to do, back surgery?
Posted on 2/18/13 at 10:15 am to CootKilla
I had a lab that started having seizures at about age 6 or 7. About one every 2 weeks or so. Persisted until he died about 3 years later. After he'd come out of one his back half wouldn't work for a couple hours or so, then he'd be fine for another 2 weeks. Vet said it wasn't hurting him long-term. That wasn't what killed him.

Now that you mention this.... My ex-fiance had a dog that would do this in the summers. Never really seizured, but when it got hot and ran for a while it's hind legs would just quit. It would drag them then lay down and cool off.
The vet diagnosed it. Cant remember what it was called. But after she cooled off she would be fine again.

Idk
Juice him up or something.
He'll want to do X-rays and shite if you go to the wrong one though.

Wife has a weiner "dog" that would just fall over and couldnt move nothing but its eyes... Very scary to see, and after 5 min it would get up and be fine.. But would just be playing and fall over like it had broke its neck and wimper. Took to SEVERAL vets, then finally one in covington "i think" and they did an mri an found he has an issue with fluid on the brain, takes steroid and some kinda fluid pill every day and has not had issue since and that was over 8 years ago. Depends on what the dog is worth to you, mri and such are very expensive but to us our dogs are family.. And no price is too steep.

Not going to argue with that.

Me either, was just stating that if he chooses to go that route, be prepared to pay.

Yep exactly.. Its pricey.. So if mri is brought up be prepared to grab your jaw before it drops haha.. But kids are kids! And my dogs are my kids!

Where is this hound located?

Did you check for snake bites? We had a beagle get hit by a moccasin when I was a kid and she lost use of her back legs. Had to put her down.

We need to talk about the important things about this thread.. Did you kill any bunnies?
Posted on 2/18/13 at 11:25 am to Junior23
disc problem maybe or did you by chance just start him on ivomec? My vet told me that certain dog breeds will have their lower half shut down by ivomec....not sure how true that is though

I'll be sure not to take a dog of mine wherever y'all take your dogs. I've had my vet run urinalysis, blood work, x-rays, put him under to try to dig heartworms out, then cremate him after he died on the table for less than $300.

To answer a few questions, the dog has been on ivomec for two years. I did check for snake bites and didn't see anything. No swelling either. The dog is in Alidore at my dad's and I will go check him for ticks when I leave work. I am considering bringing him to the vet but don't want to spend a whole lot of money. Good beagles are expensive but I aint spending money for surgeries and shite.
I killt two bunnies.

Check for a tick. It sounds to me like a tick bite. However, it does not have to be present in order to have affected your dog. Ticks carry a bacteria that it may inject when it bites. Humans can have neurological problems. Dogs mostly experience joint pain....WHICH CAN CAUSE LAMENESS in the limb. There may be a lesion at the site of the bite. It is called a target lesion (looks like a target).
Dig your fingers a little into the joints to test for soreness. The limbs will not have the soreness like the joints will.
Untreated, I think one of the concerns for dogs is dysfunction of the kidneys.
If it is the bacteria from tick's, Antibiotics is the main treatment. Steroids probably will help.
I hope you figure it out and get BEAR back up and running.
