These threads always demonstrate the magnitude of the amount of misinformation out there.
OP, listen to Shex and Prop. They said everything I would've said

Do you know anything about them not hearing appeals anymore?

They are still hearing appeals, just not performing the time consuming status checks.
Basically, Bubba can't call the NICS operator every 20 minutes because he "feels" his appeal went through.
From the NICS FAQ Section:

Is there a way to find out the current status of my appeal request?
The FBI is no longer performing status checks on NICS appeals. You will receive written notification when your appeal has been processed. Appeal cases are worked in the order in which they are received.

Most dealers will just up and say no. I have never heard of one saying it was denied to "avoid drama".
My sons store will say no before messing around with the paperwork to run the check.
What you are trying to throw out there as a possibility makes little sense given the time the store has invested to run the check.
The decision not to sell to someone because they appear to be of questionable character is made earlier in the process.

Anyone ever experience this? How long am I looking at the appeal taking? Any advice? Going in the morning to get a set of prints to send in to the FBI.
Yes had it happen to me about 10 years ago. Pain in the arse, to tell you the truth. Like you, I had absolutely no reason to be denied (no background issues whatsoever). There was someone with the same name as me who if i remember correctly had a domestic dispute issue in his background. I had to go to the sheriff's office and get fingerprinted, have it certified and mailed to them. I think it took around 75 days to clear it up.

That's what I was thinking happened. Maybe a typo as well. I had a lien placed on my townhouse about 10 years ago for an unpaid medical bill. In the title search, the realtor brought it to my attention. Another guy named Rob who has my same last name, and lived in the area. Apparently went to the ER or hospital and never paid up. I had to fill out some form to send to them and they got it cleared up in a couple of days. Some clerk just probably searched property records and mine was the first one to come up, and they didn't bother to check anything else other than the name was the same. Stuff happens. You're clear, so get it figured out. Plenty of awesome info from the OB, as usual.

This post has given me hope lol .. I was denied on my first gun purchase. I had recently started target shooting at the range with a friend and have caught the bug! Now at 38yo I went to buy my first pistol and WHAM! now I am not perfect and squeaky clean but as my research has shown nothing I have on my record would cause a denial. My brother however has used me as an alias for the last 2 decades and I believe thats what is causing my trouble. He has felonies out out the wazoo and I was stopped at the US border coming back from Canada years back by 8 border officers with guns drawn so they take it seriously. Wow I got off on a rant.. anyway I hope my envelope with prints and stuff comes back good to go ASAP!
