We have 600 acres in NW LA no camp house as of now and we are trying to figure out what to set dues at. We are thinking that we would max out at 10-12 members.

Also does anyone have bylaws for their camp, that they wouldn't mind passing along? This is our first go at setting up a Hunting camp and any serious advice is appreciated. TIA.

That's a shite ton of members for 600 acres.

Duck and deer or just deer?

That is WAY too many people for a camp of that size. My old camp had 10 people for 2500 acres.

As stated unless you are a bow only hunting lease cut the members you are looking for in half.

You really shouldn't have more than 1 member per 100 acres and that would be really stacking them anyway.

Are you leasing the land? If so, divide that figure and divide by 6. Then, add at least $100 per member for the first few years if you want to build up some sort of buffer in case you have to buy gates, posted signs, paint, etc.

Even if it is bow only that's too many. If every member just killed one deer that would be one deer per 50-60 acres and would be a lot of pressure on a herd.

Where at? I have hunted Claiborne Parish since the mid 90's and we also started a club there a couple years ago. I can probably help you out with alot of that. Give me you email address, and I'll see what we can work out.

We have done it a couple different ways, but that is way to many members for that amount of acreage.

I think ours in MS is $1300 a year now. It's basically enough to cover the lease, paying off the camp (one camp that all members stay in), paying TV/electricity, and the food plots. Extra things like ice machine parts are split amoun members evenly as they occur. If the ex president and his nephew run a 4 wheeler up the back porch and pushes the ice machine through the window, the cost of a new ice machine and repairs are on them.

Our laws are all on a piece of paper somewhere, but I'm sure others will have better suggestions for that.

My advice is figure out the cost of your lease (or property tax if you own it) if you plan on building a camp house for everyone the yearly cost of that, get a rough estimate of what utilities/bills for the year will be, and if you're gonna do food plots the cost of that, and any other expenses necessary to run the club. Try to figure how many members you will get the first year, and split it amoung that number. You might want to aim just a little high the first year just in case. Others will probably have better advise here as well.

The last thing I'll say is try to keep it where you're simply covering the costs of the hunting club, and using dues for things all members benefit from. People are happier if they know what you're spending their money on. If you try to profit from this, you'll all out of favor with members real quick.

Just my $.02

Sorry should have been more specific.
10-12 paying members only around 6 really hunt and even those 6 won't over hunt. The others are grandparents that want to be able to come out and see grandchildren or ride around the property with them on 4wheelers. It's just deer as of now but we can get to Lake Bistineau from the property. Our plans are to put a camp of some sort and hunting will kind of be a bonus.

$25 an acre is about average. So for 600 acres that would be 15k. If you go with 12 members then thats about 1250 a member.

Rules for a club need to be adjusted as the season goes on and you encounter problems. Several that should be established ahead of time are if you will have standards on whats shot, amount of guest that can be brought if any, and earliest you can get off a stand in the morning and latest you can arrive in the evening. These are common problems that I have noticed in clubs. Good luck! I run a club and have found that it is probably easier running a major corperation than keeping a bunch of hunters happy

You'll probably end up having to make more rules than you'd like, because there's some kind of rule where every hunting club has to have at least one dickhead as a member.

If you are going to have people joyriding 4-wheelers around a 600 acres tract, you are going to have some seriously pissed off members.

WOW!

I think we pay like $6 an acre and were seriously pissed that it went up that high this year.

I honestly think those non hunting members may come out once a year and maybe once during the off season. It is just older family that would like to have the opportunity to come spend time with the grandchildren. I don't want to turn down paying members who want to use the property as little as they will.

I recommend none of you come hunting up in the Northeast then if you need that much room to hunt.

$25 per acre is not unheard of. But those kinda prices tend to be on property around the MS river. I think my old pine thicket club north of Bastrop use to pay $3.75 per acre
