Long story short, I may be in Oklahoma in mid April for work. I looked into their turkey season, since we will be smack in the middle of ours, and their turkey season is open. License is relatively inexpensive for a 5-day ($85 for NR and turkey permit).

Anyone ever hunt the Sooner State before? Looking in the area of SC Oklahoma, near Ardmore and Sulphur. Just looking for general info on which public areas are worth looking into.

We hunted last year in Western OK, near the texas panhandle, and killed 5 birds. OK is a great state for hunting

Video of the hunt

The license will be more expensive than that though. "NR Hunt 5-Day (Is valid for pheasant, but NOT valid for big game, turkey or quail) - 2018"

So it's $142 for the NR basic license and then $10 for the turkey tag.

Chickasaw NRA is close to Sulphur and its nice. I've never turkey hunted there but I've seen plenty there. I'm usually at my place in SE Oklahoma, not south central OK but I've been that way many times.

Ardmore has some good restaurants and bars for a smaller town.

Ah, I read that shite wrong then. That's not quite as worth it if that's the case. I'm not going to be in Western OK, which seems to be the better part of the state for turkeys from what I've read.

Pretty shitty too. Making people buy an annual license that doesn't even let you hunt big game. I can't imagine they get many out of state turkey hunters.

My little brother drove up there 7 or 8 years ago with a friend to hunt the friends family land. they ended up killing a county record bird the first morning. I have the newspaper clipping somewhere.

This is the first place I was really looking at because it's the closest to where I will be (primarily in Sulphur). Not much information on it though. Seems rather small and possibly easily pressured.

Hunted there about 30 years ago. It was in the southeast corner. Wasn't used to that kind of turkey hunting but once figured it out it was nothing to it. Birds roosted on creek that went thru property. Could either get close and set up or once they flew out they hit the sandhills. Had then to get in front of the sand hills and call. If hunting in the sandhills be sure to wear something on knees and hands to keep sandburs out!!!!!

I’ll be in Gould, OK for opening morning. It’ll be my first time on the new lease and I’m pumped to get there.
