I've always heard that some people just can't use them because of that... From day one the diaphragm has been the call I have wanted to use...

I would suggest you just get a cheap one at wal mart or something like that to see if you can use it first...I think most people can use them just fine, but I damn sure couldn't...

H.S. strut cuttin' 2.5.

This is what everyone should learn with.

this is exactly what i learned with. once i did, i would just buy different ones and try them. everyone's mouth is different. i've tried primos, h.s. strut, quakerboy, etc. but for some reason, the ones i do best with are red head brand from bass pro.

alot of times a diaphragm call wont fit properly. take out some sissors and trim a little at a time till it fits in your mouth better. do that and learning to call is easier. another thing i did to help (and still do to practice) is instead of listening to the radio while driving, i played with the mouth call. if you do alot of driving to and from work, you will be surprised how much better you get at it. i keep a wingbone call in my truck and do the same thing.

damn good advice here...I do the same thing with my duck calls and it is suprising how much better you get with just a little practice each day...

If you can find a tape of calling

Play it in your truck. Practice the rhythm that's how I learn and havin somewhat of a musical ear
My next favorite call is a slate

Record yourself calling outdoors and replay it. Everything sounds different outside.

I like Quaker Boss Hen. This is a little off topic but Google Kenny Morgan and see if he still sells videos. I learned so much watching his videos!! Someone said he passed so I don't know if they're still available. I watch them before every season.

There are a bunch of good ones out there, the main thing is finding one that fits you comfortably. Everyone's mouth is different so what works for one person may not for another.

Work on your yelp and cluck. The cutting comes easier when you've learned to control the tone and tempo of the other two.

Record yourself and play it back, or practice in a room with an echo. It's easier to hear what you really sound like that way.
