I've already got a few Calcutta reels (because drag does matter). I had some All-Star rods with them that were 15 years old and reaching the end of their life. I just wanted to get some suggestions on new ones.

stick with the falcon coastal

A calcutta on a falcon rod is pretty much the best inshore combination IMO

if you're baitcasting fa sho.

Here is what you need. Falcon Coastal like others have said. This w/ a curado is the tits.

I use Falcon Originals. Good all around rod and the Academy's in NO will replace them no questions asked.

Would you folks say the Falcon coastal would work ok for some light freshwater largemouth fishing? Also, what sensitivity? Medium?
Posted on 7/29/11 at 6:07 pm to PTBob
I'd go with a MH for bass, but a M would work if you wanted to use it for trout as well.

I prefer medium and have a few medium lights. I will not own anything heavier than medium.

My coastal is a medium and I've used it for both and never had a problem with it. I also have a MH falcon original that is probably my favorite.

Never owned a Coastal or fished bass, yeah, I know.
I bought one MH Original and it will sit on the rack till I'm seriously hunting reds. Too tight for me.
I use only med and lower for both reds and specks, but reds are something you just have to deal with sometimes for us.
Falcons would be a nice and cheaper choice than $100+ rod.

Not if you have never caught anything over 2 lb? noone muscles trout and reds, unless you just dont know any better....
Lol! So I guess you've never been in a school of five plus lb trout and slinging them in the boat without a net. If you you need drag to fight a trout that is plain sad. P.S. I'm a leader in the Star right now for a reason. And I was meaning slot reds, not bulls.

What region? What was the weight? You're talking to a guy who caught a STAR red last October a week after the tourney ended!

I'm not giving up my identity to the crazies over here just yet. But, if I win I'll be sure to gloat!
