Tropicalization of Mobile Bay...

Article details the tropical fish from the Caribbean showing up in Mobile Bay and the effects it has on current fish...

I had heard there were permit fish being caught in the surf off Fort Morgan recently, but had no idea bonefish were up here.

Snook is common in Texas, Florida... not surprising to me that it is in Alabama. What is surprising is the bonefish.

I was catching fair to large numbers of mangrove snapper in mobile bay well over 20 years ago. In fact, I was catching them back in the late 80's and early 90's.

Some of this has been going on for a long time.

Snook are not common at all in the panhandle. Nor are bonefish and permit, but several have been caught around Pensacola the last few years.

I don't doubt it, especially in the summer.

Would any of the storms bring them up?

I remember several years ago there were several reports of snook at Venice. I believe it was as drought year and the blue and green water was very close.

The charger captain, Ronny Grenier, supposedly caught a snook at the South Pass jetties.

S. Texas near Mexico border. If there are several consecutive mild winter years without freezes then snook will travel north
