What kind of adhesive for the screws and back of mounting plate? Lots of different recommendations online. I’m thinking 5200 would be overkill.

If possible this is absolutely a must.

I used a stern saver.

Stern Saver

It attaches to the transom with epoxy, and no drilling through hull. Been attached for 6 years and 3 diff transducers.

I like using a stern saver pad. I use 4200 for just about everything though.

5200 isnt overkill IMO. I love that shite. It does take a good bit more effort to get your stuff off than 4200 but how much do you really change that stuff?

Eta: I know 4200 is "removable" but it's still pretty damn agressive. I put an engine on with it and when I pulled the motor off i had to pull it off with the tractor and it brought some gel coat with it. It would have hung on there with no bolts forever.

If you never want to remove it again use 5200

For y’all with the stern savers, you’re not worried them falling off? How long have y’all had them?

Use 5200. You can get it off if needed.

Its epoxied on there. If you clean and scuff up the gelcoat first it ain't coming off.

I use starboard . You can get a 12x6 3/4 thick piece from Amazon for 11 bucks. I cut it with a skill saw or table saw.. it's enough to do 4 boats.. glue it on with 5200..

5200 is fine and the right stuff. You don't really need to put anything on the mounting plate. The purpose of the 5200 is to lock the screws in and to keep water from getting into the transom core. Not to glue the plate on. The screws will hold the plate. You may even cause damage to the gelcoat if you ever have to remove the plate. Just shoot 5200 into the screw holes and screw the mount down. A little 5200 will ooze out of the holes and that's enough to create a good seal and keep water from getting into the core of the transom.

One tip. When you are shooting the 5200 into the screw holes, use a toothpick to work as much of the adhesive into the hole as possible. Otherwise the air that is trapped in the hole will keep the 5200 from going to the bottom of the hole and you won't actually have as much in there as it appears.
