After spending some time working on an 08 Tacoma, there's no way in hell I'd buy a yota. That thing is a PITA to work on, and some parts are only available through a dealership and are vastly overpriced. Like $900 for a plastic 4x4 actuator overpriced.

I've got 230k on my 2008 taco. I feel like at this point getting a whole new frame installed would just end up messing something up.

Well it's a good thing that most don't require much work outside of recalls.

08 Taco
Xtra cab
4WD
4cyl
Manual transmission.
147K miles.
No work other than oil changes.
Haven't even had to change brake pads out yet.

Yea I know they carry this reputation of reliability that was deservingly earned. They're very well built vehicles no doubt. I personally think the days of them being more reliable than everything else are behind us. From what I can tell, reliability and build quality across the board have caught up to Toyota.

Sure you want the 4 banger?

Everyone chuckles when I mention mine.

Little do they know it pulls my 16' boat with an outboard 150 out of the water and up the launch with ease.

Yep, my boat motor is bigger than truck motor.

16 foot flat would be the most I'm pulling. But I'm currently looking for a Taco extended cab 4x4.

I bought mine new exactly how I wanted it. If I sold it, I'd buy the exact same thing although I'm hearing it is even getting hard to find them new with manual, 4wd, 4 cyl.

Do a google image search using 'tacoma frame rust lift"
You will find lots of pictures where frame rust was not discovered until the truck was lifted.

Can you imagine what kind of rattle trap you would have if some jack leg at the local dealership replaced your frame. What a nightmare that would be.

Does the headlight assembly recall have anything to do with my bulbs overheating and burning out within months?
No I don't touch them, add grease, take all precaution. They still blow

You're looking for a V6 manual transmixer, extended cab? 2nd gen (05-12)?

Do the 4runners not have the same frame as Tacoma? I was under impression it was same exact vehicle but one has a bed and one enclosed

I'd take any gen2 extended cab 4x4 except the 4 cyl auto. Only would want a manual with the 4. Either with the 6

I got scared when you said all autos.

I went on Toyota site and built a truck just like the one I have.

Phew, they still offer stick in the 4cyl!

Online build price was almost exactly the same as I paid eight years ago, which was a big surprise ~24K.

I'll keep you in mind to sell mine if I decide to buy a new '17.

shite I might look new then. I hear a lot of complaints about the 4 being weak but I really don't tow a ton.
