Lake Houston is worth your time. Great white bass fishing too if you can find them

Are you fishing from the bank, have a kayak or a bass boat?

Sheldon Reservoir off the Beltway near Channelview. You can fish in a kayak or a Jon boat. Lake Houston is an option as well but probably need a bigger boat and about 2 weeks of no monsoon rain since it muddies up quick.

Like the last coco said lake houston is good but muddies up easily. Lake conroe isnt bad either I just dont fish it often enough to give any advice. Sheldon has some quality fish and is close. Always packed with people in yaks and boats. Boat launch is on the southwest end. Yaks can launch there also or on the north end by the bank fishermen. I have had a few great days out there but been skunked alot also. Of course I fish saltwater more than fresh also

If you already have the yak then there are quite a few places within reasonable distance:
Lake Houston
Lake Woodlands
Lake Conroe (north end)

A bit of a drive but supposed to be amazing is the Toledo Bend Reservoir.

Trinity River system has some pretty good Striper/Hybrid/White Bass fishing. There is some other areas that hold solid numbers of fish as well. Taylor’s Bayou is another good place to fish, find some agricultural drains with moving clean water and you can fill a box up pretty quickly.

Fayette County Lake is the best bass lake in the area but you will need a boat. Conroe is a cluster during the summer months with all the recreational boat traffic but has big fish in it.

My office is right down the street from Sheldon so everytime I head to the Beltway I see the horde of bank fisherman along with at least 5 or 6 dudes dumping kayaks or jons in. I have fished it a few times. It is shallow for the most part but there are fish in there. It is just very crowded at times.

I also dink around Lake Houston some with a buddy that has a boat in a slip over in Atascocita. We have hammered bass, white perch, and bream on that lake but you will need a big boat. This was also before they drew the lake down after Harvey. I haven't fished it post-Harvey but I know that Luce's Bayou and that area around East End Park can be very good for bass.

I’ve watched some of those. I wonder how you know which ones allow fishing?

If you decide to get a boat, take a good look at Lake Livingston. Good bass fishing and not a bad drive from Baytown.
