Have you seen something like this, less than $20 at Cabelas and made for a .22

That's way too small. Was holding that at Academy this week. It's a out 10" tall and 14" wide range. Small target us 2" and big one might be 5" or 6". And it sits right at ground level.

Just aim better
I have one similar for a 22. Works great. The height is a problem. Needs to be in short grass. I normally am out in a pasture.

Short so that you shoot in the ground...

I have a stack of these. Glad you said that I have something to do with them now

I can appreciate that. The property I shoot at has an earthen back stop. I'd rather shoot level at something.
My dad used to make his own targets and I remember them vividly. I'll be making some this weekend.
It was just two 6' 2"x2"'s for legs with a 2'x4' sheet of particle board nailed to the legs. Drill out a hole in the bottoms of the 2x2's and stick some wrought iron stakes in them to stick it in the ground.

Hickok 45 shoots steel targets and I never saw one ricochet. Not sure if it takes a certain bullet or type of steel. Maybe the way its angled. But I want to make some myself.
I have disk blades, and was about to throw them away.

I've never shot them. I got the idea from my dad, and he got it from some guy that was shooting long range open sights. At each distance he had disk blades.

Thanks. I've never shot at targets like that. We throw out cans, etc.
My father in law makes a deep fryer out of disk blades. Hole in the middle becomes a drain plug.

If you shoot steel, just make sure the plate has some give and doesn't mount directly to something. As long as the plate can move it will deflect the bullet safely.
I've been shooting plates from shootsteel.com forever and they're great. The target stands hold up a 2x4 and the plate just sits on the top through a bolt. Check out their site to see what I'm talking about. I'm on a phone right now so I can't link the pics

Hanging with a chain looks like a good idea. Should allow the plate to move and bullet deflect down.
