Ahhh. Rode in one of those jet foots last summer, running some jugs. Those jetfoot boats are impressive. I can't float my kayak in the water they run wide open in. Very cool.

Well, in their defense, when you are running in shallow water in that thing and come off the throttle, causing the boat to hit bottom, you come to a dead stop and everyone and everything flies out the front of the boat.

Two gray haired fellas? Making sure it was then. Couple other folks run that stretch too. They burned the fish up today btw.

I'm not going to pretend to know all there is to know about Bass species. I've only been fishing the upper Amite for about 5 years now. Kentucky bass are what we mostly catch up here in those swift moving waters. If you find a pool or Eddie off the main river you can find largemouth quite often. This big girl was pulled out of swift moving water and had red eyes so I'm assuming she is indeed a Spotted Bass. But what do I know?

Largemouth and spots will also hybridize making identification that much more difficult. The coloration and body proportions don't look like the spots you caught, but the red eye is generally an indicator. LDWF goes by the tooth patch for enforcement purposes which isn't 100% either. I think it's a cross personally. Either way, that's a big fish for small water. Congrats.
