No, be prepared to cover with plastic hats if you get a frost.

Remove once threat is over or you'll cook the plants.

The big commercial growers have started planting already

4. Good Friday (Like Balls said)

I dunno! I used to go by that as well but by that time it's already getting hot as hell and getting dry. The last three years I have planted Potatoes on Feb 14th like you should, corn next around Feb 20th-March 10th, tomatoes March 10th-on to good friday. Normally I like to have everything but okra in the ground in march and have had tremdous success. Last year I had tomatoes out really early and it frosted pretty heavy twice while they were young and it did not hurt them one bit. Now a hard freeze, thats a different story. Just cover them during times of frost or a freeze and ya should be fine. I'm a little north of some posting here up and over by toledo bend in vernon parish. You guys in the southern parishes should be planting corn right now! Good luck fellers

reason i ask is my oldest is doing a 10x20 above ground garden for his AG class this semester. never have done one like this before. i am still thinking of what i need to get for him to make it.
Make it out of those landscaping bricks at Wal Marks. Dad will have a garden for a long time.

Probably could put a couple of tomato plants in pots to get an early start and just bring them in if it gets cold.

Anyone ever used the seed from their tomatoes to grow tomatoes? Some varieties don't work well like that I hear. Want to try to use my own seeds from now on. Any tips?

I wouldn't wait till good Friday, Easter is late this year. I palnt a huge garden and sell at stores and farmers market. I am planting most of my tomatoes by Monday or Tuesday. My goal is to always plant by first week of march every yer moat of the time the ground is too wet to till right now but I am making rows today or tomorrow. The earlier you plant the fewer diseases and insect trouble you will have. The only thing I plant this early is tomatoes though because the other stuff such as peppers, eggplant cucumbers need warm weather to grow, tomatoes don't.

I agree. Everyone in my neighborhood has been just cutting back and planting.
