This might freak some of y'all out, I'm 24 and have never had the opportunity to go hunting or fishing growing up. I'm obsessed with reading up on this board and gaining as much info as possible. Just hoping to get some tips to properly introduce myself to both so that I can find two new amazing hobbies I can one day share with my kids. Thanks

So many questions you need to ask before a blanket statement like this FWIW.

What do you want to hunt? Deer, ducks? Pig?

Where do you live? ETA: Ok Autin. NVM

What kind of fishing?

Are you an OB baller?

Gun Safety is my #1 recommmendation. <ALWAYS: Treat your guns with respect and consider each one loaded.>
Take the hunter safety course, you will likely benefit.
Hunt with experienced people. Most people will be happy to take/teach you all they know if you pitch in on costs and expenses of a hunt. (Gas and Corn come to mind)

I'll weigh in more when I get back to a computer later, but for now I will say don't spend a fortune on gear when you first start. Make sure it's something you're gonna enjoy and continue to do before you drop a lot of money into it.

You need a mentor or coach. Somebody in he field with you. Tagging along is the best way to learn.

I assume since you said you've never had the opportunity to hunt/fish you don't have friends that are into it. You need to become friends with some people that do. The only way to dive right in is to go with people that do it.

+1 on the hunters safety course. Take it in a class so you can meet people there that hunt.

Really what you should do is find some forums that are local to where you are and start talking to the guys on there then get with them on trips. Starting fishing would be easier than just cold starting hunting because there are less places. But just talking to locals would be the best bet.

right. Could get into fishing for less than $1000 for a kayak rod reel bait and all the fixins and he could learn at his own pace and not feel like he's a hinderance to someone trying to teach him. Would be easy to get his feet (and butt) wet...
