"Budget" is relative, but I'd have to say the best pre-bankruptcy model 700 I could afford.

Good luck around here.

It's still only a click away...

Many, but they were across several state lines so I'll call 'em Crappie. Won't go "Croppy," regardless of what my Alabama kin say.

Couldn't agree more. Er, I mean... nope, nothing to see here. Folks need to keep driving south until they hit the Villages.

Where you at in AL? Spent many a summer on Lake Martin as a kid. Still get back there occasionally.

How do you feel about cheap cooler purchases from board members with a random sketchy "business model"?

How cold is the beer in said cooler?

A wild- game chef I know says all birds need to be brined, so we'll start there. But, as above, how hungry are you?

There it is! Somehow I expected that response regardless of what I'd put. What would you choose?

I'm in Ohatchee AL. we are about an hr east of Birmingham. On lake Neely Henry. I lived in Southside for years just 10 mins up the lake but we recently sold our house and are building a house in Ohatchee.

That's a beautiful area. Alabama has their lake business figured out.

Not what the rest of this board will tell you is the right answer.

I'm sure I can guess, but the OB can think whatever it wants on this one, man.

I have a .243 that would be one of the first things I'd grab in a housefire. It's a Rem 600 that I inherited from my Grandmother, who spent just as much time in the woods as the menfolk. I killed my first buck with it as a kid, and I hope I can pass it down one day. I may dust it off and put it back in the rotation-- it'd be a good little gun for dragging through the swamp. If I can't kill a whitetail with it, it sure as shite ain't the gun's fault.

If someone really cares what another man shoots they probably have bigger issues

I have a buddy(probably reading this post) who is a big ole baw youd think is slinging .45-70 for fun. He loves him some .243 and i dont think he has lost a deer with it

My dad has been shooting the .243 he bought when I was 10 for about 20 years now. It kills the shite out of deer. Sometimes the blood trail is minimal but that's what I buy dog food for. He killed a big ole Audad and quite a few big hogs with it, too.
