There's a trackhoe running a Fecon head 10 hours a day at the land I hunt as we speak. When the operator shut it down on the first day I walked over about 20 min later just to check out the machine. 50 feet from the machine I jumped a doe laid up in a tree top. I didn't think it bothered deer a whole lot, but I didn't expect them to familiarize with it that quick.

When they thinned the 1200 acres I used to hunt, the volume of deer didn't change. The patterns just changed a bit. The stands that you were guaranteed to see deer suddenly didn't have anything. Other stands picked up the slack. They cut every 3rd row of pines and it opened a lot of new shooting lanes. They finished right before rifle season if I remember correctly.

And as far as deer being scared off by all the noise. We consistently see deer right behind the camp and we are always shooting guns, tannerite, etc. They get over it in a matter of hours.

Hell no.....I enjoy hunting around logging operations. Curiosity gets the best of the deer and they have to come look when it gets quite. Have killed a few good ones and seen many around active logging jobs....bring them on

If I were the guy leasing from you, I may be a bit aggravated at first but would not think it's the end of the season. After all, it's your land and you are protected. Sounds like you are handling it the right way and I would be appreciative if it were me. Let us know how it goes!

Dude was understanding when I told him about the timber cut. His main concern was how bad the log landing would be because he worked hard putting out clover. Between the dozier guy doing a little extra clean up and me reimbursing him for seed and fertilizer, it may not be a problem.

He probably wont get mad til after he sees it; because it is kind of shocking when us city boys see the aftermath of a timber cut.
