Thoughts on Go Pro Camera.

I am thinking about buying a Go Pro for a week long water expedition. What do y'all think of the quality of the short battery life compared to the HD quality of the camera aspect??

Hero 3 silver is what I have. I just plug in the whole unit with battery in it while driving between destinations. You can get an extra battery and charging bay. I have that aswell but rarely use it. One battery has recorded atleast 4 20 min segments while we are offroading. Get the app too. Well worth it for previewing the video. Remote is a waste of money with this app

sjcam 4000. I bought a gopro and the sjcam at the same time and sent the gopro back. it was 1/3rd of the price, had more features, and came with more accessories.
it also has a lcd on it so you can at least look at your media, unlike most of the gopros.

Slight hijack...
Is it possible to connect it to a battery source and external hard drive to get extended video (couple hours)?

Yep, but you're going to need a pretty big drive to store a couple hours of video. There is a calculator to figure out how much storage space you will need based on whatever bitrate you choose on the camera.

Dazzne p2 or p3 are another cheap option

i take my hero4 black bowfishing all the time and film on 1080 60fps and can get 4 or 5 hours of video with my 64 gb card. I use a limefuel extended battery its an L40g4 for the hero4. I run out of space on my card before i run out of battery.
As far as general comments on the gopro, I havent used anything else but the kodak playsport. I loved the Kodak playsport but it only worked for like 2 or 3 months. The gopro has tons of accessories and I use mine for everything so it was worth it for me.
ETA: I bought the gopro I bought because filming in the different fields of view is really nice. I never film in wide(traditional). I always film in medium or narrow so things dont look so far away, but i like knowing i can switch.

Link below is one of my videos and it was all shot with a Gopro (minus the drone footage). I use the hell out of it. just purchased a camcorder for zoom fuctions though.

I made a camera box this weekend to put all my video equipment in.

Gonna mount on the bow? Or just behind you guys?

I find the best for bow fishing is wearing it on your head

That video is badass. ETA: I think I've seen some of your other drone fishing videos - trout fishing, etc. You fishing out of the Cocodrie area, right?
I'm sure I'll get a head mount too, but I want a video of me and the pops shooting together, for memories and such.

If you want good footage, i suggest moving the camera every few fish. a video of all the same angle gets boring.
Yeah, thats me. Its about time for a new speck video. Just waiting on the weather....

they have their moments.
if you're not looping while recording your wasting a lot of time/space

I have one of the older, Hero 2's. It's ok. Just be prepared to buy editing software, if you're planning to put together any sort of "nice" videos. And your computer will have to be decent to run the software.
