This is what we have always called a fly bream

They normally are about double this size. Will have a stubby tail. Ignore my pruned hand from being in the water.

a member of the sun fish family. we called em sun perch not to be confused with blue gills same family

Looks like one of spotted sunfish.

That could be it. I am seeing a few pictures of spotteds that look similar. They normally are hanging out on the edges of bedding areas for other fish.

Cut a few notches on the tail wide gap hook in the back and throw him back out there.

It usta be against the law to use em for bait but now as I understand it if ya catch em you can use em. I know a couple big catfish hunters that fish em and use them.

Yes, and on Toledo Bend, you can even trap them.
