Just read that the Jackson Big Rig is getting the Flex Drive. Also, Nucanoe has added pedals to the Flint. That will be a quick little Yak.

The new Pelican Catch 130 HD
-12’6
-85lbs (I assume w/out drive)
-1,499 msrp
-due out Jan 2019

This is a screen shot from a YouTube video so I enhanced it so the words might be more readable. It’s said to be the old generation mirage drive which is pretty bullet proof. I actually really like the layout with big front and rear tankwells. I’ll definitively look at one up close for things like floor flex and whatnot. For under 1,500, a mirage drive, and that layout, that’s a hell of a rollout for Pelican.

For sub-$1,500 that thing is sweet. With how popular Academy is in Louisiana I could see these getting bought pretty often.

It looks like the fins are a bit small, I wonder if they will roll out an upgrade for better speed?

Been planning on picking up a PA14, but this development gives me pause. Can't wait to see some more reviews.

Old Town released their 3 new Topwater series kayaks. All feature a pontoon style double hull.

Topwater 106 - $900

Topwater 120 - $1000

Topwater PDL - $2000

These look like Old Town's entry into the "budget" kayak market. They look very well thought out and feature rich. And the pedal drive is the same as on the Predator PDL so it's well tested and reviewed.

I definitely hopped on the Old Town bandwagon. The PDL drive is the best drive on the market IMO. Its definitely the most efficient at a 10.3:1 gear ratio and the prop was designed by Minn Kota engineers. It floats, is designed to be maintenance free, and comes with a 4 year warranty. Plus instant reverse.

See that’s something we’re going to have to wait on. Will it be compatible with the Hobie turbo fins or will Pelican make some upgrade fins.

The more I see the FeelFree Dorado, the more I like that boat. Pretty damn smart design with all the lights already integrated. It’s about the closest turn key yak out there.

That is impressive. I still prefer the Mirage Drive because of it's shallow water capability. Seems like you would have to lift that drive often in the marsh.

The Dorado is pretty badass. Any reviews on the drive?

FeelFree Dorado

The boat itself is awesome and the Gravity Seat is legit. My only reservation about the FeelFree's are the pedal drive. I haven't heard much about them and know nothing of their reliability/durability. The fact that it can be a pedal or electric power is really cool though!

I know of none. Are they making it themselves?

Man I have seen very few. I like the lure 13.5 with the drive too. The only issues I’ve seen is when guys retrofitted and they had to make small adjustments to shore up a little movement. I haven’t seen any issues from factory installed but then again, not much out there.

This is what I’ve gathered re. the Pelican pedal drive: it is the Hobie gen 1 patent which expires after 20 years. The new Hobie 180 drives are a new patent so nobody can copy that. Will be interesting to see which other boats use the old drives. A company like Bonafide comes to mind since they don’t have a pedal yak currently

A Bonafide with a quality pedal drive sounds amazing. The layout on those boats are legit.

I wonder if the Hobie fins themselves are patented? I bet someone will figure out how to integrate some Mirage drive accessories to be compatible with the HyDryve and sell them as conversion kits or something.
