Your Uzi is an SBR because it has a stock, a stock is not a brace so no it's not the same thing.
tell me what the practical difference is between that uzi "stock" and an AR pistol "brace". i can pull one hex bolt and drop the underfolder off the uzi. i can shoot the firearm with one hand with a pistol grip with the stock folded (or no stock at all). i can shoot the uzi arms extended with the stock unfolded and use it as a stabilizing brace.
here is an AR pistol with a brace, shouldered.
when shouldered my uzi looks exactly the same

not arguing with any of that, i agree with all of it.
all i AM saying is that out in the real world, they are the same.
if i add a forearm strap to my uzi stock, is it a brace?
the uzi carbine is perfect for disabled shooters because of the design of the stock...why is it an SBR then?
and further, how is an AR pistol with a brace more suited to the disabled shooter than a regular AR carbine? there is no "right" to shoot a heavy pistol...if you can't because of a disability, shoot a carbine.
i'd love to get my $400 SBR tax back
all of this is stupid, we can all agree on that

I know nothing of what exactly you're discussing, BUT
for all those that say "They'll never come take my guns" (for whatever reason)
this is an example of deal,
they will just make it "illegal", and then you (not the sheriff's dept) will have to make the decision,
Do I own an illegal piece of property that may send me to prison that I keep hidden in my gun safe, or do I turn it in?
They don't have to "Come take it away" to take it away.

why can’t we all just be honest with the fact that if you buy an AR pistol with a brace you are doing it because you can then own an SBR without paying for the stamp?
I do truly believe that if this kind of running the margins of firearms laws keeps the ATF engaged in regulatory overreach. It’s not worth it and it provides ammo for the real gun grabbers
how many here buying this thing are disabled?
if you want an SBR buy the damn stamp

I have a 556 pistol, I've considered getting a 7.62x39 upper. I won't.
I get cgrand's point about braces 'in the real world'. I'm not a large frame guy, that short length of a brace isn't unpleasant to "accidently" assume a stance one shouldn't with such a firearm.
Here's my final opinion on this: my pistol shoots steel 223 with barely any recoil. The brace can come off and leave just the buffer tube, and with my red dot sight, I can shoot quickly and accurately with the firearm touching nothing but my hands.
I have a carbine in 7.62x39, and I don't think it would be as comfortable in that configuration. Just a little too much thumping around.
I think the option to "permanently alter the brace and not sell it" means the actual brace; you have to render it useless.

I had a stroke and lost some fine motor skills, the SB tactical braces allow me to shoot better and easier. I collapse the brace and hold it into my chest.

The issue with these aren't sitting in the safe. My concern is riding with the pistols in the car or self defense event. Generally people that get an NFA violation had bigger issues at hand.
