[/img] First trout of the year for me. Not the best looking one but she'll do. Water temp was still in the 30s so things were a little sluggish. Pulled her in on a size 8 stonefly.
(wading boot in the pic so this should be OB approved)

Just a heads up for anyone that does not have a fly shop near by - I recently discovered Casters Fly Shop which is located in NC. They do free shipping on any order over like $8 which is the cheapest I've seen. Most online places require $25 minimum if they do free shipping at all.
Seems to be good customer service - I ordered some copper holo tinsel to make some Ian's Brass arse midges (great midge pattern IMO). They were out of it so they discounted that off my order and sent me a free spool of brown holo tinsel just because...

Had a crappie roll over on a 1/0 popping bug this morning. That was a surprise.

Very nice.
Were you after bass?

Yep. Had a great time with those. Fished yesterday evening and landed over 20 (lost count). Biggest was a little over 3, 3 more 2.5-3. This morning was slower. Missed 4 on a new popper that I couldn't get a hook set with. Switched back to this one and landed 4 + the crappie. Then grabbed a few more with a big streamer.

Can you post a pic of just the popper in your hand at some point?
Within the next 6 months I might be moving back south and will be forced to get back into warmwater fishing.
I'm starting to research this stuff b/c the flies are a bit different than steelhead.

Looks good. I'll be buying some new boxes and filling them with poppers and such.
You ever go after them later in the season when they go deep? With decievers, clousers, ect...? I've never seen anyone use one but I was thinking I could make some really big san juan worms with extra large chenille to substitute as a plastic worm that spincaster guys use

I don't go after them when they are sinking line deep but mainly because I don't have a boat. I still catch plenty on Clousers, crawfish patterns, etc. I've tied couple chenille worm patterns but never fish them. I like anything with long rabbit fur way better. Today when they quit hitting poppers I went to a slow sinking streamer that has about a 6" bunny tail and fished it real slow. Here's one with a bead head that I like to bounce along the bottom.

Ah. We play Rutgers at rutgers this season. I'm going to try to make it up there to fish for a day.

Where were you thinking I might could help you with some spots.
Posted on 3/20/16 at 9:23 pm to AubieALUMdvm
I'm thinking no where yet. I'd be inclined to hire a guide.

Well, if you're going to be down in New Brunswick area the closest (quality) fishing I can think of is in the Catskills. Roscoe NY would be a major starting point. My personal favorite in the area is Willowemoc Creek (picture in the OP is from there) or the Neversink River. The Beaverkill river is also popular but I just haven't had as much success on it.
Also in that area are the East and West branches of the Delaware - excellent fishing can be had there too.

I appreciate the guidance. I'll start to look and update you with what I'm thinking.

I have had most of my luck for LMB on big poppers, woolly buggers, clouser minnows, etc. Really I have had luck on all kidns of minnows, even salt water minnow flies and baitfish flies.
These are some of my favorite poppers for their durability and ease of casting.
BoogleBugs
Other than that I will just try out flashy minnows, some small, some large.
Later in the season I have thrown some sink-tip line with shad flies on there, those do pretty well.
I had bass aggressively chasing this fly all the way up until November this past year:
