this is a terrible mindset to have. Goes along the same lines as someone who only hunts and has nothing but bolt-action rifles saying that they don't care if they ban semi-auto rifles because I don't use them.

This exactly.

HSUS shut down dove hunting also.

quote:

HSUS used this same tactic in 2006, when it spent nearly $3 million to halt Michigan’s newly adopted dove season. Television ads appeared, showing a hunter blasting aimlessly at birds and crippled doves in the dirt. HSUS never confirmed if the video was authentic, despite repeated requests from media members—including myself. The ads also said doves are inedible and hunted solely for sport.

Deceptive as its high-dollar campaign was, HSUS won the vote by a landslide.

don't really care about wolf or bear hunting. I'm not actively against it or anything, but I'm not one to kill or catch anything that's not going in my freezer (I make a special exception for a coyote or a snake).

You realize what you did here?

I personally see a big difference between coyote and wolf hunting.

I am with Mung and Alxtgr on this one. If we fight everything, no matter how distasteful, we run the risk of being the ones labeled unreasonable.

The quotes in the original post were some terribly written propaganda.

You are right. It is important that we look reasonable when people are advocating restricting our freedoms.

Do you hunt? HSUS is spending money, and lobbying, to outlaw your sport also.

No, I post on an outdoor board because I am into stamp collecting.

My point was they aren't going to stop at accomplishing bans on just certain types of hunting. They want it all banned. I find bear hunting to be distasteful at best.

HSUS wants to outlaw your hunting also.

Or do you think they are only spending money to outlaw hunting you disapprove of?

Meh, the comment I quoted with approval has zero to do with HSUS.

coyotes? By your logic, let's just let the coyote population run rampant right?

Their is no logic to any of this, the analogies here are out of control.

I'll make one. I am for legalized pot, so therefore I must be for legalized meth and heroin. See how that works.

Not everything is the same, nor should everyone or situation be treated the same. We do it EVERYWHERE in life, but people hear or read shite from a group they don't like and just go nuts. Everyone starts screeching freedom like they are William Wallace...I just cant believe the term slippery slope has been avoided.

Everyone wants to bitch and talk about essential freedoms when these things come up, talking about Michigan and dove hunting and what not...yet very few have put out pro hunting propaganda on their own or as a grassroots effort. Makes me wonder if anyone really believes what they are screaming.

Just sayin........

With hunting, who gets to decide what is acceptable?

A fair point. There are simple things people can do without resorting to propaganda, which is a spinoff thread idea of mine. Some of us also pay others to fight for us (NRA for example).

the people will vote on it, if someone is truly concerned they will start putting forth an effort.

If I was concerned one of my essential liberties was being infringed, I would be doing something, anything, to insure a successful defense. I am not concerned in the least. Yes, you can have groups support your position, but I cant imagine if something was so important one would farm out the responsibility.

Without action, all the outrage in the world is just hollow barking in the wind.
